Vegan Cinnamon Rolls So Good No One Will Guess

Vegan Cinnamon Rolls So Good No One Will Guess

Going plant-based doesn't mean saying goodbye to the comforting classics—and these vegan cinnamon rolls are living proof. Soft, fluffy, and dripping with a dairy-free cream cheese frosting, they deliver all the nostalgic flavor of the traditional version without a single egg or drop of dairy. I've served these to skeptical friends who couldn't believe they were vegan, and honestly, that's the best compliment a baker can get. Whether you're vegan, dairy-free, or simply curious, this recipe is about to become a staple in your kitchen. Let's roll!

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup vegan butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tbsp water (flax egg)

For the Filling

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup vegan butter, softened

For the Vegan Frosting

  • 4 oz vegan cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup vegan butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the flax egg and set aside for 5 minutes to thicken.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm almond milk, melted vegan butter, and the flax egg. Mix and knead until a soft dough forms, about 8 minutes.
  3. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
  4. Roll the dough into a 16x12-inch rectangle. Spread softened vegan butter and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Roll tightly, cut into 12 pieces, and arrange in a greased baking dish.
  6. Cover and rise for 30-45 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Beat the vegan frosting ingredients until smooth and spread over warm rolls.

Chef's Notes & Tips

  • Check your sugar: Some granulated sugars are processed with bone char; choose organic or certified vegan sugar to be safe.
  • Flax egg power: It binds beautifully, but let it sit long enough to gel properly.
  • Room temperature vegan butter: Softened (not melted) butter spreads best for the filling.
  • Frosting consistency: Add powdered sugar one spoon at a time until you reach your desired thickness.

These vegan cinnamon rolls prove that compassion and comfort food can live happily on
