Creamy Ground Beef Stroganoff: A Comfort Food Classic Made Simple

Creamy Ground Beef Stroganoff: A Comfort Food Classic Made Simple

Some dishes just feel like a hug in a bowl, and creamy beef stroganoff is absolutely one of them. Tender ground beef, mushrooms, and a silky sour cream sauce piled over noodles — it's the kind of meal that makes a Tuesday feel special. The traditional version can be fussy, but our ground beef take is beautifully simple and just as delicious. If you're looking for a cozy, crowd-pleasing dinner that comes together in one skillet, you've found your recipe. Let's cook!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 8 oz (225g) cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 12 oz (340g) egg noodles, cooked according to package directions
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and onion and cook for 5 minutes until golden.
  2. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, for 5–6 minutes until browned. Stir in the garlic and cook 1 minute more.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Stir and simmer for 3–4 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Reduce heat to low and stir in the sour cream until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Serve the creamy beef mixture over the cooked egg noodles and garnish with fresh parsley.

Chef's Tips & Tricks

  • Don't boil the sour cream: Add it at the end over low heat to keep the sauce smooth and prevent curdling.
  • Mushroom magic: Sear the mushrooms in a single layer for the best golden-brown flavor.
  • Swap the noodles: Serve over rice, mashed potatoes, or zucchini noodles for a twist.
  • Thicken as needed: If the sauce is too thin, simmer a few extra minutes; if too thick, add a splash of broth.

We hope this creamy, dreamy stroganoff brings as much comfort to your table as it does to ours. It's proof that a few simple ingredients and a little love can create something truly special. Try it this week and share the joy — snap a photo, tell a friend, or invite someone over to enjoy it with you. From our kitchen to yours, happy cooking and bon appétit!
