Best-Ever Chocolate Chip Banana Bread (Kid-Approved & Freezer-Friendly)
Best-Ever Chocolate Chip Banana Bread (Kid-Approved & Freezer-Friendly)
If there's one recipe my family asks for on repeat, it's this chocolate chip banana bread. It started as a way to rescue the sad, forgotten bananas on the counter, but it quickly became the star of the show. My kids hover around the oven like little hawks, waiting for that first golden slice. The chocolate melts just enough, the crumb stays impossibly soft, and somehow a loaf never lasts more than a day. Today I'm sharing it with you — because everyone deserves a little chocolate in their banana bread.
Ingredients
- 3 large ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
- 1/2 cup (115g) butter, softened
- 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus extra for the top)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and mashed bananas.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips, then pour the batter into the loaf pan and scatter a few extra chips on top.
- Bake for 55–65 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with just a few moist crumbs.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack.
Chef's Notes & Tips
- Brown sugar matters: It adds moisture and a caramel-like depth that white sugar can't match.
- Toss your chips: Lightly coat chocolate chips in a teaspoon of flour so they don't sink to the bottom.
- Freezer-friendly: Slice, wrap individually in plastic, and freeze for grab-and-go treats.
- Warm it up: A few seconds in the microwave makes leftover slices taste freshly baked.
Go on — rescue those bananas and turn them into something your whole family will cheer for. I'd love to know if you added nuts, extra chocolate, or your own secret twist. Share your creation and spread a little sweetness today!
